Early Years Foundation Stage (Age 3-5)
More About Early Years Foundation Stage (Age 3-5)
Active learning through play and experimental investigation is an essential basis for effective education at every stage. Our world class educators plan for and create stimulating environments that facilitate learning through capitalizing on the children’s interests. The children are encouraged to lead their own learning, and as such, the organization of space, materials and people is designed to support this independence. Learning provision is planned to promote each skill in communication, creativity and problem solving.
Within the day-to-day life of the classroom there is a carefully considered schedule, which provides a framework for planning. Children learn to make decisions, ask questions and reflect on their own learning. Careful observations of the children’s development allow the teachers to make informed judgements about the learning taking place and possible next steps, to plan relevant, challenging and motivating experiences for each child.
Throughout the day, teachers prepare and facilitate activities to encourage skills and knowledge in all seven areas of learning, in order for children to achieve the 17 Early Learning Goals at the end of Foundation Stage 2. Core areas of social development and communication will be encouraged in all activities, with teachers assessing learning, planning activities and observing the children’s development and interest before starting the cycle again.
The EYFS School Day
Our Early Years children start their day at 08h00 (the same time as all pupils in the school). Break times happen throughout the morning and classes are timetabled in both our indoor and outdoor play areas. School finishes at 13h30.
Snacks and Lunch
Healthy eating is encouraged at all times. Children are expected to bring in a healthy snack from home each day, with a fresh bottle of water and are encouraged to eat snacks and lunch together in a calm and social environment.
Lunches are eaten in the EYFS building. We encourage healthy eating and good table manners from the first day of school and whether children choose to bring in packed lunches or purchase a cooked meal from our kitchens, we encourage them to make sensible choices and expect all pupils to be eating healthy, nutritious food.
